How to Boost Energy Naturally

Five natural ways to boost your energy

Did you know that stress depletes energy in your body, making you feel exhausted and sluggish. In today’s day and age, with hectic schedules and external environmental factors which both lead to stress, we are left with less energy on a daily basis. Chronic fatigue can put a damper on our life and activities, decreasing productivity and reducing the overall quality of each day. While energy drinks and stimulants may help temporarily, they are not the healthiest and won’t help long-term. Here are five easy ways to boost energy naturally.

Diet

What you eat determines how you feel. Eating nutritious food and maintaining a balanced diet is the easiest way to ensure that you keep energy levels up. A diet should have balanced macros—a combination of 45–65% of your daily calories from unrefined carbohydrates, 20–35% from healthy fats and 10–35% from protein—as well as foods rich in vitamins and minerals. Including this every day—over a period of time—will guarantee increased energy levels.

Sleep

Sleep helps to conserve energy and repair organs and cells, so a lack of it will cause us to feel sluggish and tired. Experiments show that just 48 hours without sufficient sleep can impair cognitive functions. The energy conserved during sleep is redistributed throughout the body. Scientists also believe that neurons produce a compound called adenosine, and when they build-up during the day, it causes us to feel tired. When we sleep, this adenosine is cleared and we therefore feel awake. People require different hours of sleep per night, depending on their activity, but the general rule of thumb is to sleep 7-8 hours per night to feel well-rested and alert. To improve the quality and length of sleep, try avoiding blue light for 2 hours before going to bed, eat your last meal in the early evening, and go to sleep and wake up at the same time each day.

Meditation

Meditation and the practice of mindfulness help to relax your body while keeping your mind sharp. External stress can cause the brain to trigger cortisol, a hormone that rapidly depletes energy. Meditation mediates the effects of cortisol and helps balance it out. A study shows that meditating could reduce the levels of cortisol, thus conserving energy throughout the day. Meditation also helps us sleep better, as it increases the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin, improving sleep quality. Meditating for a few minutes every day is an excellent way to boost energy naturally and keeps your mind and body alert, yet relaxed throughout the day.

Water

Dehydration quickly depletes the energy in our bodies and can cause intense fatigue. Water is essential for the conversion of food into energy and it transports oxygen to muscles. It’s recommended to drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day so that you stay properly hydrated. Even mild hydration can impair thinking and increase fatigue. Water also hydrates your brain, enhancing cognitive function and productivity.

IV infusions and B12 shots

IV infusions supply nutrients to your bloodstream directly, skipping the whole breakdown process of food and causing an instant surge of energy. IV therapies can be customized to your specific needs and can target the nutrients that your body lacks. Other benefits include: boosting your immune system, radiant skin, rehydration after a workout and faster recovery from an acute illness, long travel or late night out.

Fatigue and weakness are indicators of a B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 shots can help counter the deficiency and help boost your energy levels. Our bodies cannot store vitamin B12 for long periods of time since the vitamin is not found in many foods. If you are experiencing a B12 deficiency, you could greatly benefit from getting B12 injections regularly and experience increased energy, improved mood, stronger immune function, higher metabolism and deeper sleep.
